Charles was destined to be in the Music Industry. He was born into a family of Gospel Royalty. His father was a lead vocalist in the world renowned Swanee Quintet, one of “The Godfather” James Brown’s favorite groups. As a young fellow, he played Bass Guitar and wrote songs with them. He achieved early acclaim where his songs are noted in the National Museum of African American History and Culture located in Washington, D.C.
Charles taught himself how to play the Bass and Guitar. One day, while listening to the radio, a song came on called, “I’m Here To Love You”, by Michael McDonald of The Doobie Brothers. He became so inspired, he went out and rented a Piano for $25 a month. It was the Gospel/Soul style of Michael’s piano playing that moved him. He then developed a smooth, sweet vocal singing style that truly delivers the message in his songs. He began to perform with the bands Sequence 8, and Funny Bone, which led him to become a songwriter. Charles is known for his innate ability to write powerful lyrics and melodies that visually tell a story. His work has been featured on numerous commercials in the Central Savannah River Area (CRSA), and on artist’s recording projects such as Gladys Knight. She has even invited him up on stage to perform at her shows.
Charles is well versed in many music styles. Being a Multi-Instrumentalist allows him to wear many creative hats in order to tackle whatever music project he’s working on. In Charles we trust!
